This was a good paper you wrote and I think you hit it right on the nose here. This is as you say a very controversial subject to say the least.I grew up in a church-going family and was expected to attend church two or three times a week with Sundays usually a four to five hour day.I learned the Bilble pretty good and it wasn’t untill I was older that I learned through reading a lot that there was other alternative ways of thinking .This is a good representation of an alternative way ,but basiclly the same story we’ve been taught since children . The one aspect that caught my attention for some reason , you said something like God was not to be feared as he is a kind gentil God , but it seems to me like you said the opposite is more to the point because God has always been portrayed as the ALL POWERFUL and Thou Shalt Fear the Rath of God ! I hope I am still around and see the day when someone can come up with a better alternative with a more plausible explanation to why we are all on this earth together than the two most commonly spoke of : Gods heavenly creation or Evolution. Seems to me we are all missing the real explanation , I always liked the possibility of the scientific test tube theory ,an experiment by an advanced race of another planet located in the next solar system .Oh well ,just a thought ,but doesn’t the idea of creating someone from the rib of another sound kinda of like cloning to you ?
Good paper, some really good points. I like how you focused on all the facts of the bible, but what you should have focused on was when the actual books that are in the bible were writen. There were many gospels written but not all made it into the bible, so although the first bible was put together in 1611 we have pieces of papyri with two thirds of the gospel of John dated to the year 200 and pieces of Acts and the four gospels. The oldest papyri we have has 5 verses of John and its from the year 100 – 150. Also even though the bible was written over and over again and in so many languages and from so many time periods makes the bible stronger because all those different copies are the same, they differ slightly do to translation when words don’t translate. We currently have over 5000 catalouged ancient greek copies of the bible, the only other ancient text that comes close to that is Homer’s Illiad and we only have 850 of those and some are in fragments and were copied over 1000 years after homer’s original. Also scholars historically accept the biograpy of Alexander which was written 400 years after his death, so why not the history of jesus which was written only 100 -200 years after his death (that we have record of)? Okay sorry, I’ve gone on this topic far too long, I’ve read alot about this subject seeing as I’m a huge sceptic of everything, even though I’m still not sure about the whole religion thing, this evidence is overwhelming. I really liked your paper, the only part I thought was week was the bible stats, I’m also not completely sure what you were answering or telling us. Good read. Oh if you want to know more about the actuall history of the bible from some really smart people read “The Case for Christ” written by Lee Strobel who was also a sceptic who went in search for answers by interviewing some of the smartest people in the field, this book is his interviews with these people and where I got most of my facts, this author has written more books on religion as well now that he is “saved”.
I felt this paper was very well done and insightful. Excellent opening and it hooked me immediately. I enjoyed the argument about God being a woman. I felt the research was good and they counter argued how accurate religion may be with so many translations out there. This was obviously written and rewritten as it is very hard to dissect. I would have liked to see more references to other people from they’re blog page. I did also how ever feel as though it was more of an account of the movie. But other than that very nice job.
Nice paper. I haven’t seen the movie, but you painted a decent picture with the ’shit demons’ and strippers playing roles from major leads in the bible. yea i agree with faith is what you make it, and there are no real hard facts. that was a bold statement for the type of criticism it could recieve. in your paper you said, “someone had to bring balance, sanity and creativity to the story and that’s kind of what women bring to life, isn’t it.” so men are insane, dull, over stiffed fire crackers about to explode, huh? i will give you that, women do bring balance and create life, so i can see how smith portrays god as female, but why the black guy? is it so there aren’t those questions about ’sure, the man has to be white’ that you would be hearing from black critics. Anyways, i liked your paper it was easy to follow and i really liked the storyboard reference to god. being as how i don’t go to church, so i don’t get to hear a lot about the storyline. overall good movie (sounds like there was a lot to talk about) and nice paper. nice interview on the radio too, “Everyone should experience at least one bj a day”
Yah i agree with everyone…really good paper, I almost question why mine is up???:( haha. Anyways…overall it was well written, the first page second paragraph: It is used to discourage any judgements, etc…Love it, I’m glad that you stopped and let everyone know you’re not knocking down anyone’s beliefs or criticism (if there is any). Plus I definitely enjoy the humor, you put it into…it kinda giving of the “so what” vibe. I also like that you believe that Kevin “inspires religious freethinking.” I haven’t seen this movie, but I’m always open to hearing these sort of arguements, it gives me time to think about the situation in terms. One part that particularly throws me off is: Page 4 paragraph 2: “the audience already knows that Bethany is the last Scion.” I think it would sound better if it was in another paragraph because it seems it was just thrown in out of nowhere. On page 5 paragraph 2: “Thanks to Kevin Smith, this movie was a success.” That also throws me off…because it sounds as if you’re ending the paper. I don’t know it just seems out of place also. It’s a strong sentence don’t get me wrong, it just seems a bit out of place in the middle of the paper. Other than that it was sort of hard finding much with your paper other than ,”hey this is damn good.” so good job Katie!!
Sorry this is a day late. I agree with everyone you did a great paper. I also agree with what Allison said about how you prepared yourself and you got lucky with an interview. If had the chance to do the same with my movie I am not too sure how I would word my question. You were straight to the point. Even though I have seen this before (its been a really long time though) you go into detail enough that things I do not remember come back to my mind so what you are writing is making sense. All grammar looked good to me, but I am not very good at picking out bad things in papers, sorry I am not being much help. I also like how you put in facts to support the way you believe and how you ended your paper, “if one believe God is a purple, polka-dotted, Swedish frog” if that is what someone believes that is what they are going to believe. Again great paper.
