Well Glenn- Excellent paper!! I know when we first started school and this English we were a little unsure as to how we would do… I would say you did great! It is a very well written paper; I like the introduction as it tells a story and you want to know what happens to that poor stag. The paper flows well and is easy to read based on the way it continues to tell the story. I’m not sure what the Illiad is (yes – I probably should know) but maybe you want to put something specific in that paragraph about that battle. I also like the parallel with Hitler in it. In my mind it is unfortunate that these men both had such big egos that they had all of those people killed- yes it is impressive that they were such a strong race but it seems they decided to play God and it wasn’t based on bad acts, rather a weaker race. This was a good movie (I don’t say great only because of the harshness of the Spartans) but your paper was great. Nice job.
Glenn it’s a great paper I love your intro and your descriptions about growing up a Spartan boy in training for a warrior. The Hitler parrallel is right on I love that you were able to incorporate that into your paper. I would check your punctuation though, alot of your commas and periods have spaces in front of them and after them. The paper flows well and I can read it easily without being confused. I’ve only seen this movie once so I don’t remember it very well, but I can almost say I have seen it twice now after reading your paper. You explained things very well.
Awesome paper! I like that you seem like you spent a great deal of time researching the autheniticity of this movie. There are alot of facts in your paper supporting your ideas and mainpoints. The only critisizm I can think of right now is that there were alot of facts and not too much of you in the paper. A fact was backed up by a fact, but some of them didn’t give me your outlook on it. Also, I don’t get the title……was it supposed to be that way?
Really good paper Glenn!!! I have to agree with Ann…the introduction has a way of inviting you into the paper as it wants us to get the feel of the setting you’re about to explain. So I like that. I also liked that you have great resources that seem to compliment your paper very well. It’s intriguing how they were similar to Hitler and what had happened also similar to the Holocaust…so it was smart for you to put that into your paper also giving your reader more to vision and understand what you’re writing about because even if they haven’t seen 300 they have a great idea because the Holocaust is a very popular historical event (unfortunely evil, but historical). Your conclusion was very interesting. It’s almost used as a metaphor (I want to say) or another similie…You use these different ideas of where inspiration is drawn from and for different people who do different things which also is a strong ending…and gives a good close. Great Job Glenn
This is a great paper. I love the movie 300. I wish I had 8 packs like them. Anywhoo. I like your intro. And the way you described how training is for sparta boys. Cool. Also i liked the resources you used. They way you incorporated hitler in your paper really worked. Since 300 is way before hitler it was coll to see those differeces and similarities.
the infanticide reminds me of the Bible. the Egyptians kills the Israelite slave babies by the thousands. and then again, the roman governor ordered the Jewish babies to be killed. the bible is such a good book.
i like that there is so much information in this. it didn’t seem like there was a lot of BSing in this. It feels like it is all legitimite and is brimming with citations. citations are the best because they make you look good, but they are the worst because I pay too much attention to them. anyways. I really liked this paper. i think theonly downside is that I have no idea what the thesis is. that is my fault though. I need to read it one more time and try harder.
Good paper, it was very fun to read and interesting. I like how you have all these facts about the spartans and connected it to Hitler. One thing you should look into is the fact that if you were to ask many soldiers and tactical leaders, like Generals and advisors, they would all agree that one of the greatest fighting forces this world has seen is Hitler’s elite SS, regardless of what Hitler did or stood for. Also did the Spartans go to neighboring societies and kill their unworthy young or did they kill you if you simply came to visit or pass through, or did they stick to their own society? The Germans went on a rampage for global cleansing and domination. So I take from your paper that you are talking about the inspiration many draw from this battle and why, but I also got the sense that you were arguing that we should look at who they really were before we start to look up to them and use them for inspiration. Or maybe you were just pointing out some other ways you could draw inspiration from the Spartans and got a little side tracked into arguing the fact. I draw inspiration from the Spartans and many of my fellow soldiers drew their symbol on their gun trucks and armor as a sign or reminder to stay strong and brave, to never give up because it’s not the country your fighting for or for democracy, it’s your brothers fighting to the left and right of you.
This was a great essay Glenn. I enjoyed reading the whole thing and didn’t get bored or skip ahead during any point of this. I like how you made it sort of relevant when you brought up that Hitler tried to do the same thing, making the superior race. That made me think that why is it that we make movies that glorify the Spartans and then we criticize Hitler for the exact same thing. We never hear anyone talking about how horrible the things that the Spartans did it was their culture. Then I read on in your essay and realized that you covered all of the topics and gave a pretty good explanation to my questions. This was a very good and fun essay to read.
nice paper glen. you picked a movie where there is not as much talking for how long the movie is. i think it kind of explains the spartans and their lifestyle as you did very well in your paper. i like the parallel you used with hitler. i never thought about it that way. the movie doesn’t do much explanation so to do as you did and dig further into the mythical knowledge. just think, if leonidas never sent that man back no one would know what actually happened down there. little confused because i don’t know the story of the illiad, might want to go more into detail about that (short summary or something). i did like thew second hand knowledge you pulled from a source about the cronus vs. zeus story. one other thing, when you say (“Sparta the city”) what do you mean. there are no page numbers so i can’t assume you are quoting from text. might want to be more clear either in your paper or works cited page.
I really liked your paper its was well done and really easy for me to read. Your paper gave plenty or good support for your Topic that draws Prom all over history. your use of the Germans during world war to was a great example to support gar topic. It showed that other people really did take lessons brown the 300 Spartans. Then you tied in the use os green mythology really well with your paper. It was easy to stay with your agreements through your paper they were clear and easy to keep on track of.
